The public performance FRAMES is the final presentation of an intense five-day international workshop in the GC Zeyp with participants from Greece, Italy, Latvia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Turkey and Belgium. The workshop ‘Frames’ is situated within the Educathe + partnership and is funded as part of the Erasmus + KA2 strategic partnership. The workshop is thematically concerned with increasing the employability of persons with disabilities and their skills.
The participants are persons with a (visible or invisible) disability and people who are somehow involved or deal with obstacles and problems that persons with a disability experience in job interviews, at work or other situations in everyday life. The public performance in GC De Zeyp on Saturday March 19th 2016 presents an open and creative view on various ‘solutions’ that the participants have found to cope difficult situations.
Subject and starting point for the C3 FRAMES workshop, is the concept of ‘frames’. What are ‘frames’? What types of frames do we know/recognize, which kind of frames do we experience as limiting, which frames are rather supportive or liberalizing. Stigma, undervaluation, discrimination or exclusion caused by prejudice, ignorance or fear for the unknown (other), unfortunately remain for many a reality.
The research starts with the gathering of ‘working materials’ and information in short brainstorm sessions and interviews with the participants on the theme ‘frames’. These personal experiences, ideas, testimonies, thoughts, feelings and issues will be the starting points for the workshop. The theatre is deliberately chosen as a safe place that provides the chance to work in all intimacy, respect, trust and freedom of thinking and acting. Facing obstacles and difficult situations in a theatre setting gives the opportunity to have an external and different view on different obstacles and creates a playful space to search for creative solutions.
The workshops aim is to provide tools for a greater resilience in difficult or confusing situations through the discovering and development of personal talents and abilities and by learning how to profile and use them in a creative way that makes a person feel stronger and more flexible. The workshop also is a research on how distances caused by fear and misunderstanding can be decreased and how we can contribute to a society without barriers, with equal opportunities, understanding, recognition and a dignified treatment of all man. After the performance the audience is invited to an open question and answer session with the participants. Questions can be raised about the difficulties faced by people with disabilities from various European countries and about the working points and solutions that are proposed in the presentation.
The workshop FRAMES is developed by Caroline Rottier (director inclusive theatre/dance projects for over ten years) in collaboration with Lisa Gunstone (professional dancer), Krijn Hermans (professional actor) and Jeroen Baeyens (professional dancer/ choreographer) who are experienced as well in inclusive performing arts, education and working with people with disabilities.
The performance starts at 8 PM and lasts for 50 minutes.
Entrance is free but advanced booking is recommended.
